RECALL ALERT: Certain Similac Powdered Formulas Recalled by Abbott

Abbott (makers of Similac Brand Infant Formula) has issued a voluntary recall of Powered Formulas produced for distribution in the US, Puerto Rico, Guam and some countries in the Caribbean. The recall involves certain Similac Brand Powder Infant Formulas that did not meet their quality standards because they detected the remote possibility of the presence of a small common beetle in the product produced in one production area in a single manufacturing facility.

According to an alert posted on the Similac website (http://similac.com/recall/) the US Food & Drug Administration has determined that while the formula containing these beetles poses no immediate health risk, there is a possibility that infants who consume the formula containing the beetles or their larvae, could experience symptoms of gastrointestinal discomfort and refusal to eat as a result of small insect parts irritating the GI tract.

Now that you have been grossed out and scared for your babies health, take a deep breath, and don't panic...Abbott has provided this quick link for you to immediately find out if the formula in your cupboards is part of this recall. Please also share this information with everyone that you know that uses or may have Similac Infant Formula in their possession. This recall does NOT involve any of their liquid formulas.
